The Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) has launched its first national survey, and is encouraging all union women to take a few minutes to complete it. The main focus of the survey is on health needs. (Responses will be kept confidential.)

CLUW is partnering with HealthyWomen, a non-profit health resource for women, on providing wellness information, and the survey will help both organizations better understand women’s health needs. Visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/cluw-survey to take the survey today!

95 years ago this month, Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby certified the 19th Amendment, enshrining in the U.S. Constitution women’s right to vote.

Women’s Committee Meeting Report

CSEA Local 602

07/10/2015

We just recently had our first self-defense course taught to us by a black belt instructor from Buffalo State College. I am sure that I speak for everyone who attended, that this class was very well done and even though it was only 2 hours we did learn a lot. Of course some of the students may have sore hands and arms – but it was fun. We will be doing this again in the fall so please stay turned for further information on date and time.

This is the start of a new year for our members so I am getting ready to make the calendar for our upcoming events that the “Sisterhood” will be sponsoring.  I would like to take this opportunity to ask all of you what you would be interested in. It could be a stress reliever class with simple yoga moves, a speaker from Psychological Services explaining all the services that they provide, some type of smoking cessation classes for people who really want to quit smoking, or even a healthy quick cooking class – the topics are endless but they will only work if you are interested. Please call or email the union office with your suggestions. Gina will be more than happy to take them down and pass them on to me. Office:  645-3040. Email:  csea602office@yahoo.com

I am really striving to make this a banner year for our members. Besides offering information classes we need to bond now more than ever before. The negotiations for our new contract are starting and we have to be more vigilant and proactive than ever before because we need to protect what we fought so hard for and not be thrown under anyone’s bus because of wrong information being spread about unions.

Anyone who is interested in helping organize these events for Sisterhood calendar for the 2015-2016 year please contact the union office and leave your contact information. I appreciate any and all information and help that any of you can provide.

Thank You !  AJ

Women’s Committee Meeting Report

CSEA Local 602

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

We have had 2 meetings so far and the word seems to be spreading.

At this past meeting we had a motivational speaker that took us on a short relaxed journey in our minds. She shared her experiences and knowledge on handling stress in the work place and at home. She even provided us with light suggestions that could adjust our mood and demeanor so that we could tackle the day in a much better frame of mind. It was a very enjoyable voyage.

We also had a teleconference with the Director of Voice. This is another arm of CSEA. It is a union made up of, and working for, family childcare providers from across New York State, organizing for power to take on challenges facing us and the children and families they serve. If you happen to be experiencing problems with day care issues or are just starting out and do not know where to go for information please contact them at:

http://voicecsea.org/

We are open to more suggestions on topics to be discussed at these get together’s. We want to make sure that we tackle as many topics and/or problems that maybe intruding into our lives.

We also decided that the word “committee” was an ick word with connotations of volunteering and extra time that most of us do not have the luxury of. So we are trying to come up with another title that would suggest a communication of ideas and social interaction with our peers.

If you are interested in sending your ideas please go to our website:

and send in your suggestions! We would love to hear from you.

Thank you! AJ
